Welcome to Bergdorf

announcement

Alpine Village is a cosy farming and life game set in a small village high in the Alps: cowbells, cheese, and a ski lift that hasn't run in years.

The story

You've spent six years in the city, working in hotels, learning what makes people travel somewhere. Then Mom's letter comes: Grandfather is gone, and his hut at the edge of Bergdorf is yours, if you want it.

So you take the post bus up the valley to the last stop. Dad is waiting. Mom has bread and cheese ready and won't hear a word against it. The hut is bare, but Grandfather's axe and pickaxe still cut.

What you'll do

  • Farm the alms. Clear the overgrown track to the Hofalm and grow turnips, potatoes and Flax. Milk the cows, make cheese and butter in the alm dairy, and cook it all into proper Austrian dishes.
  • Open the valley. Every alm you reopen brings something new: a lake full of fish on the Seealm, sheep, goats and bees on the Weidealm, waterfalls on the Wasserfallalm, and a glacier at the top.
  • Go looking for trouble. The deep forest beyond the Tiefwald, the old mine floor after floor, and an ice cave under the glacier, each with something big waiting at the bottom.
  • Make a home. Grandfather's hut is bare. Everything in it, you make or buy.
  • Get to know the village. Rosa, Alois, Vreni and the others all have routines, opinions and favourite presents.
  • Build a ski area. Get the old cable car running and the Bergalm is yours: pistes, tows and chair lifts, a café whose kitchen you run yourself, a slalom and a ski jump, and visitors who come to ski it all.

How it's being made

Alpine Village is made in Godot, for PC first and Nintendo Switch later, with every action playable on a gamepad. It's a small project: I direct and playtest. We use AI for coding and for building our own tools, and we have used generative AI for the music. No image-generation models are used: the pixel art is drawn by scripts in the project.

This site is where updates will go. The wiki and the map are built straight from the game's own files, so they grow with every update.

See you up there.
